Science walk

Today we went for a walk in our school grounds and we were amazed at the litter that we found. We picked up all the litter that we could find and learnt about the effects that litter has on the environment and especially the amount of plastic in the sea.
The children were amazed at how much rubbish there is in the ocean and some children decided to make posters to put up around our school to help remind everyone to throw litter away and to recycle.

Maples and Cherries

What an amazing start to Year 1! The children have settled in fantastically and we are very proud of all of them.

This week we have started our learning on The Great Fire Of London and the children have enjoyed being emersed in various activities such as tea staining paper, making bread, playing in the new role play area ( pudding lane) and creating some beautiful fire art.

The children have amazed us learning so many facts already about The Great Fire Of London.

Mrs Watt, Miss Ivey, Mrs Sloan, Mrs Breaker and Mr Jenkins are all very excited for the brilliant year ahead.

Traction Man is Here!

The topic this half term has been Superheroes! As part of our English learning we have been looking at the book 'Traction Man' by Mini Grey. The children have loved this story and have created their own sequel to the 'Traction Man' book.
We went to reception to share our stories with them.

In Design and Technology we designed and made our own superhero capes and masks.

Year 1 walk to the Post Office!

Wow what a fantastic week we have had! Rabbit and Deer class were so excited as we had a little trip to Lymington post office! During our English learning we have been writing stories for Cinderella and Goldilocks, we put them all in a sealed envelope and posted them first class! (We really hope they like them).

At the post office we all worked together to: weigh our letters, choose a stamp, pay for the stamp and collect our change and receipt. We also had lots of questions to ask and found out about the work of a postman and postwoman. We spotted lots of important landmarks on our journey which will help us create maps of Lymington next week! What a fantastic trip! Thank you so much to Lymington Post Office and all of our fantastic parent helpers.

In maths we have been learning all about division and fractions! We helped share out cookies between Mummy bear and Daddy bear for their picnic!

The Jolly Postman

In Year 1 we are looking at 'The Jolly Postman' and we have a jolly post office as our role play areas. We have started by writing letters to Goldilocks and we have been thinking of new products for Hobgoblin supplies and pitching them to each other.

In maths we have been doing multiplication and division and we have used cereal to help us share out amounts.

We were really lucky to celebrate Chinese New Year last week with a whole afternoon of Chinese activities. The children loved tasting the different food!
We also did Chinese writing and made Chinese lanterns. Some of us even tried on some traditional clothes.

During our Geography learning we have been looking at our local area and what we can see on a map.
