Space!

Welcome back! We have come back after Christmas with a bang, the children are really enjoying learning about the topic already.

This week we found a UFO which had crash landed in our school grounds. We have been investigating what happened. We found out it was Beegu who crash landed and we have been learning all about Beegu and thinking of questions to ask her if we met her.

As part of our topic in History we have been learning about some astronauts. The children have been finding out information and recording them for a fact file.

I'm maths this week we have been learning how to use counting beads and dienes and thinking about partitioning numbers into tens and ones.

Sharing our stories with Year 2

Today we had the chance to share our amazing writing with Year 2 who have also been writing their own version of traditional tales.

We are having a blast in Year 1!

Wow it has been so exciting in Year 1. On Wednesday we were treated to a surprise! The Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has heard that we were learning about The Great Fire of London last half term and came to visit us! We had so much fun playing games and learning about how to stay safe! We even had a go at blasting the hose and looked inside the fire engine! Thank you for coming to visit us Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service!

We have been super excited about being real authors and writing our own stories this week in English! We used talk for writing to help us to retell the story of Little Red Riding Hood which gave us lots of ideas for our own stories!

We have really been challenging ourselves in our maths learning and solving missing number problems and division using sharing showers! We have all been super resilient and have been using lots of practical resources to help us learn.

We have been learning about lots of different faiths and religions during some afternoons in RE. It has been really interesting to learn all about how different faiths and beliefs are celebrated. We have learnt all about the festival of Diwali and got creative by making diva lamps! We also really enjoyed learning about Judaism and Hannukah- we were very lucky and were able to pass around a Menorah to closely examine it- this stemmed lots of discussion and questions about Hannukah.

Rabbits and Deer class have really enjoyed our science learning this half term! We have been learning all about animals and whether they might be: mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds or fish! We worked in teams to group lots of different animals based on their features.

Year 1- Traditional Tales

In year 1 we returned from our half term with a great big shock! Someone had been in our classrooms  and had destroyed them! We had to be careful investigators to find out who this criminal was!

In English we began by completing crime scene investigation forms and then when we realised it was The Big Bad Wolf we wrote a descriptive missing poster using adjectives! We think this might have scared The Big Bad Wolf away!
We have also been writing party invitations for Grandma and instructions to help Grandma make Little Red Riding Hood her lunch (then we could follow our own instructions to make AND EAT honey sandwiches!!)

In maths we have been exploring shape and measure, number, addition and subtraction and also have began to explore multiplication and division.
