The Buttercups and Lavenders are starting to grow!

Over the last two weeks the children have settled well in their new classes and have continued to enjoy their learning.  Miss Ramsdale's class have decided that they are the Buttercups and Mrs Church's class are the Lavenders of Year 1.  The children have created some rules for everyone to follow and have decided  how they want their classroom to look! The pupils have completed passports that have helped them get to know one another better.

As a school we have been learning about the Philippines as Mr Hustler is due to undertake charity work in that country during the summer holidays. Mr Hustler delivered an exciting assembly where he asked the children to generate fund raising ideas in order to raise money for people who have been affected by the Tsunami. One of the suggestions from the children was that Mr Hustler should shave off his hair!

The children created a mind map full of their ideas. This provided the pupils with an opportunity to produce great literacy work with a purpose. Year 1 wanted to make cakes and salt dough decorations  to sell full of glitter, sequins and stripy paint! Amongst the chaos of chocolate and rice crispies, there were lots of super practical maths opportunities- estimating, counting and weighing.

All pupils then created a poster for Parents and Carers to attend a table top sale on Wednesday 16th July so that they could sell what they had made. The Buttercups and Lavenders counted the money raised in groups and the grand total came to £30.11! Thank you to everyone for your support. You are brilliant!
